Odisha has received a coastal circuit project under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme. So far, 94.72% of work of this project has been completed, said Union tourism minister G Kishan Reddy in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.

Objective of the project is to develop the tourism circuit of Gopalpur and Tampara in Ganjam district, Barkul in Khurda district and Satapada in Puri district.

The Centre has sanctioned 76 projects for Rs 5,294 crore under Swadesh Darshan Scheme to develop tourism infrastructure under identified thematic circuits in the country including one in Odisha.

2023 Capacity Building Scheme by MoT to tap nature-tourism potential of Ramsar sites

Central to this endeavour is the Alternative Livelihood Programme, a facet of the Amrit Dharohar initiative. The main objective is to empower and train local community members residing near Ramsar sites. By partnering with the Indian Institute of Tourism & Travel Management (IITTM) and the MoEFCC, the initiative aims to fortify nature tourism at these sites while concurrently offering alternative means of livelihood for the local populace.

The Union minister said implementation of the projects is primarily undertaken by state agencies. However, the ministry of tourism regularly reviews the progress of the projects to expedite completion, he said.So far 64 of 76 projects have been completed. The remaining 12 projects including the one from Odisha are in different stages of completion, he said.
